IT has almost been a year since Nima Rad started his weight management clinic at Castle Quay Pharmacy, and the results are promising.
Patients report positive feedback and significant weight loss success, highlighting the clinic’s impact.
Nima returned to university for six months in 2022 and qualified as a prescribing pharmacist, specialising in type 2 diabetes and weight loss.
“There’s a huge overlap in the lifestyle support for these specialities,” he explains.
His long-standing interest in food and its significant impact shapes his approach to helping others lose weight. He advocates a healthy, balanced diet with an emphasis on consuming a variety of plants and fibre.
“Education is vital,” Nima emphasises, noting the widespread misinformation about nutrition that can lead to an unhealthy relationship with food. He generally advises against removing foods from the diet, unless medically necessary, as this can limit nutritional benefits.
Collaboration is key to Nima’s method. He works with other healthcare professionals and exercise providers to ensure patients receive comprehensive support, integrating enjoyable physical activities into their routines.
“Weight is a sensitive and complex issue,” he acknowledges, appreciating the challenges of a weight loss journey. It is vital for Nima that his patients feel comfortable to discuss any personal issues without feeling judged. His commitment to being available by email or phone reflects his dedication to his patients’ progress.
“I love getting to know my patients,” Nima says. “It’s so rewarding to see their confidence grow.”
Through reflection and setting small, achievable goals, he motivates them to adopt a more positive lifestyle. Recognising every step of progress, no matter how small, is crucial for long-term success, he believes.
At the clinic, Nima prescribes an injection that mimics a naturally occurring hormone in the body, reducing hunger and in turn aiding weight loss. However, he stresses that lifestyle changes are essential for the best outcomes. Patients explore diet and exercise habits to ensure sustainable weight maintenance after stopping the injection.
“I share resources to enhance their knowledge and spark discussions about food and exercise,” Nima adds.
Nima’s holistic approach is transforming the way patients think about weight management. By fostering a supportive environment and focusing on education and lifestyle changes, he empowers individuals to achieve their health goals. His dedication to patient care and innovation is setting a new standard in the field.
Beyond the pharmacy, Nima serves as a Thermomix adviser. This kitchen appliance simplifies preparing nutritious, fresh meals and drinks.
“From salads to breads and yoghurts to risottos, the possibilities are endless,” he enthuses. “The Thermomix can support weight loss by encouraging a varied, home-cooked diet while saving time and money.”
As the clinic continues to grow, there is excitement about the potential for further developments. Nima’s passion for helping others and his commitment to improving their quality of life remain at the heart of his work.
This unique blend of medical expertise and personal care ensures that Nima’s passion stands out.
