THERE were few signs of letting up in the third round of the Trials Summer Series, as competitors took to Barette’s Recycling Yard to enjoy a tight venue with a healthy mix of terrainand no rest between sections, which challenged everyone involved.
Garry Beardshall (TRS) had to be content with being the “Nearly Man” in the Novice Expert C+ route this time around with Vertigo’s John Philpot just getting the upper hand.
Both riders scored 18 marks, but the win was decided on two extra cleans.
In the Expert category, a magnificent giant-killing performance once again by Tom Le Breton on the Sherco showcased his strength on the man-made technical sections.
His nearest rival, Lee Rogan (GasGas), looked very settled on the new SW Trials supplied machine. However, his experience alone wasn’t enough to see him through.
Section master Jack Moulin set himself a big challenge this time out, although this experience will help him build his skillset.
Elsewhere, Wayne Boschat (Beta) enjoyed an amazing ride and appeared to have the legs on St Clement supremo Glen Hamel, also Beta mounted.
It was not to be, however, as Hamel dug deep to bring home the Italian machine in first place by a mere mark to clinch not only the win but the championship.
Clubman Expert rider Kerry Knowles (Beta) had to contend with some stiff Expert sections but still managed victory over Conor Carre (TRS).
However, the championship remains wide open with another round to go.
In the Novice battle, Harry Carre (GasGas) looked confident on the Spanish machine and dominated the class with a fine win over Jon Mallen (GasGas) and Amanda Wright (Sherco).
Corey Wood (Beta) rode very strong, tackling the digger buckets on section two with style, and, in fact, doing a much better job than his elders, screaming the little 80cc machine over them with relative ease and confidence.
A well deserved and mature ride from him took the win in the Clubman Youth.
In the Medium Wheel Novice Youth, it is a tough task riding the same sections as the adults with a smaller bike.
It was great to see Theo Roberts back out (Beta) giving Mason Dare (Beta) a good run for his money and taking the win.
Both riders took the tough man-made sections in their stride. These guys are sure to impress as they settle into the remaining round and the winter series.
The JMC&LCC extended their thanks to Alan and Jack for arranging the venue with the landowner, Barette Plant Hire’s Shaun Barette for machine driving and also to the marking out team for putting in the work to make something out of the very small venue.
Additional thanks were made to observers Terry, Nigel, Alan, Andrew, John, Richard, Sophie and Christine and to Sarah and Sean for all their hard work.
