Jessica Pinel (25) will undertake a different daily activity over the month while also raising money for the Durrell Wildlife Conservation Trust.
Miss Pinel’s ‘Rewild the People’ challenge fits in with the charity’s ‘Rewild Our World’ strategy, which has set a number of targets to achieve in connecting people with nature by 2025 – the 100th anniversary year of the birth of Gerald Durrell.
The local adventurer will be posting videos of her taking part in the activities online in the hope that they will inspire other Islanders to get outside and try something new.
‘I think it is easy to get into the habit of thinking there is nothing to do in Jersey,’ said Miss Pinel.
‘When I was a teenager I used to complain that there was nothing to do here but once I went away to go to university and then came back it really opened my eyes to how much there is available to do on the Island.’
The activities Miss Pinel will be taking part in include running, surf kayaking, mountain biking, scuba diving and archery.
Miss Pinel studied biomedical sciences at the University of Brighton before returning to the Island, where she now works as a scientist in a medical centre.
‘It’s important to me that these videos encourage people to get outside and try something new. Each video and update is designed to give people an idea of what it is like to try out a new activity at either a beginner or professional level,’ she said.
