Haynes launches next-generation manual with on-demand video service

A new on-demand motoring maintenance service aims to dispel the myth “that it’s not possible to work on a modern car”.

Motoring maintenance expert Haynes, well known for its model-specific books designed to guide motorists through repairs, is launching a video service.

Haynes OnDemand provides 1,500 HD videos for more than 100 makes and models, with at least 15 tasks available for each car. Prices start at £2.99 to access one video, or £9.99 for access to a full set of a model’s tasks.

The company says that DIY repairs could save motorists money, with spark plug and rear light replacements costing up to £100 at a garage, while starter motors could cost £250 when done professionally.

There are videos for a variety of part replacements, including shock absorbers, fuel pumps and brake pads.

Andrew Golby, global digital director for Haynes Publishing, said: “Haynes is a brand that people can trust to give the right information – and we’re uniquely placed to do so given that our print manuals are known for their thoroughness and attention to detail.

“Knowing that sometimes people might just have one job to complete rather than tackling the entire car, we have created something truly accessible to anyone wanting to work on their vehicle – no matter the scale of the job.”

Last year, analysis by automotive industry body the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders found that British motorists spend a combined £21.1 billion on service and repair each year.

It found that the average motorist forks out £695.39 each year on car maintenance –
about 12 per cent higher than the global average.
