The event challenges participants to swim at least 30 strokes in 30 different bays around the Island over 30 days during July to raise money for Jersey Hospice Care and the National Trust for Jersey.
This year more than 330 Islanders took part and the event, which was first held two years ago, was drawn to a close on Wednesday evening in St Brelade’s
Bay with a celebratory swim.
And Linzi Duckworth, the communications manager at Jersey Hospice Care, said that she thinks that a record amount of money could be raised.
‘We had 336 people register this year, which is more than we have ever had,’ she said.
‘We had about 60 people come for the celebration swim and they brought their sponsorship forms with them, and so far we have raised more than £5,000. Last year we raised £14,000 and we are really hopeful that we will end up raising more than that this year because it has been so popular. ‘The weather has been really good, which has helped with participation – it has really taken off this year.’
She added that the feedback had been ‘really great’ from participants who have enjoyed this year’s challenge in the warm weather.
‘We have heard some amazing stories. There was the team that did all 30 bays in one day by cycling,’ she said.
‘There was also a lady who took her 80-year-old father out with her. People have been going to bays that they didn’t know about or haven’t been to in years.’
Swimmers who have not completed the challenge yet still have the opportunity to do so this month. Charity donations for the event will also remain open until the end of August.
