AN online art auction has been launched by the RNLI Jersey to commemorate the UK charity’s 200 years of saving lives at sea.

Ten lots, created and donated by Jersey artists using the themes of the sea, are to go under the hammer next month on the same evening as the RNLI 200 Gala Ball to raise much-needed funds for the charity.

Islanders will be able to bid online until midnight on Saturday 15 June. All artworks are currently on display in the empty shop opposite Howards Opticians in Queen Street.

Successful bidders will not only acquire the artworks, according to the RNLI, but will also “be contributing to the RNLI’s aim of saving lives at sea, in helping to fund worldclass training and the highest-specification safety equipment for current and future generations of volunteer crew”.

The highest bidder for each piece will be contacted in the week starting 17 June.

Mike Edward, organiser and RNLI Jersey crew member, said: “We hope that Islanders will be inspired by these unique and beautiful pieces of art. Your favourite one could be hanging on your wall in just a few weeks”

To take part in the auction, visit easyliveauction.com and search for “RNLI art auction celebrating 200 years of saving lives”, where bids for art pieces can be made.

Additionally, tickets for the RNLI 200 Gala Ball on 15 June at the Royal Jersey Showground can be bought from the RNLI Jersey website.
