Boxing champion to visit the Island

The event – which is being organised by new events company Jersey Royale – will feature an hour-long interview with the undefeated champion conducted by former cruiserweight world champion and Sky Sports pundit Johnny Nelson. There will also be a three-course dinner, live entertainment and an auction of sporting memorabilia hosted by snooker legend Willie Thorne.

Mr Joshua is the current holder of three of the four world heavyweight titles – having recently defeated New Zealander Joseph Parker – and is widely regarded as one of the biggest names in British sport today.

He also won an Olympic gold medal at the London 2012 games. Jersey Royale founder Warren Le Sueur, who is also behind the Weekender festival, said: ‘It has been really well received. Anthony Joshua is one of the biggest sports stars in the world right now, so there are a lot of people who want to see him and meet him.

‘It’s a different type of show, being a black-tie dinner, but we are delighted to be able to bring Anthony to Jersey.’

He added that he hoped it would be the first of a number of gala dinner-type events and he was already discussing similar plans with ‘Hollywood A-listers’ to speak in the Island.

The black tie event, which is being held at the Royal Jersey Showground on Friday 15 June, will also raise money for children’s charity CLIC Sargent Jersey. Further details are available at jerseyroyale.co.uk.
