THE owners of a farm shop in Trinity are on the look-out for someone to take over the business.

John Rondel, of Rondels Farm Shop on Rue de Haut de l’Orme, stressed that the business was not closing.

He said they had made the decision to advertise for someone to take over the lease – for £43,500 a year – after their butcher retired at the end of 2023.

The property includes a 2,200sq-ft shop floor, plus storage and offices.

Rondels Farm are hoping to “bring someone in to run the butchery alongside the shop”, Mr Rondel said, adding that the ideal candidate would be a butcher.

Mr Rondel said that he would support whoever takes over the business, offering to help with staff, accommodation for staff and potentially a handover period.

“We want it to work,” he said.

There had been interest from someone with “good ideas”, he explained, but this candidate eventually decided that they were too old to take over the business.

But, Mr Rondel added, he was open to people with suggestions and ideas.

Without the butchery, Mr Rondel said, “it just doesn’t work”.

In the meantime, he added, the shop would carry on running, despite difficulties posed by Brexit.

Mr Rondel said French suppliers were not willing to fill in the extra paperwork required to export products.

Alistair Sarre, the estate agent in charge of the lease, said the current owners were “testing the market to see if there is another party to take it over”.
