The Seigneur of Sark is calling for an urgent survey of an iconic walkway connecting Sark and Little Sark after a “large” chunk of it collapsed over the weekend due to the wet weather.
La Coupée spans the saddle of land between Sark and Little Sark. It’s a popular spot for tourists and an essential thoroughfare for those living in Little Sark.
Seigneur Christopher Beaumont posted a video of the rockfall on social media. “It hasn’t been caused by coastal erosion,” he said. “This fall is due to the wet weather getting into the rocks.”
He stressed that the collapse seemed to have happened far enough away that the integrity of the road had not been impacted, but said: “It does highlight that it’s not as stable as we’d like to think.”
He added: “Wouldn’t it be good to have a survey? To at least find out what the future holds for La Coupée?”
