THE Chief Minister has agreed to a meeting with Reform Jersey – which will take place this morning – as she attempts to shore up support ahead of a vote of no confidence.

But in her letter to the party, Deputy Kristina Moore emphasised that most of the policies in their New Deal manifesto had not received the Assembly’s support.

With ten States Members, the political party holds significant voting power within the 49-strong chamber.

Former Infrastructure Minister Tom Binet lodged a vote of no confidence in the Chief Minister last week, with the motion set to be debated on 16 January.

Reform Jersey sent a letter last week to Deputy Moore, requesting a meeting to “seek assurances” about how she will work with them “to change the direction of travel of the current government”.

Ministers are “failing to take Jersey forward”, according to the letter signed by party leader Deputy Sam Mézec and deputy leader Deputy Lyndsay Feltham.

Deputy Feltham, speaking to the JEP, explained that the meeting’s outcome would allow the party to decide whether to support Deputy Binet’s proposition.

Deputy Moore yesterday responded to their request, writing: “I am always very happy to meet States Members to discuss ways in which we can work together, and my office will be in contact with you to agree a time. I will invite other members of the ministerial team to attend as well.

“I will approach this meeting in the spirit with which I hope your offer is made. I am open to working together constructively with all States Members.”

She added: “I must emphasise though that such an approach will require collaborative working and compromise, and not simply agreeing to implement the manifesto of any one individual or political party.

“I agree that we need to avoid personality driven politics and instead focus on policy and delivery for Islanders. I regret that, in the current circumstances of the lodging of a vote of no confidence, I don’t consider this to be the case.”
