THE National Trust for Jersey is to begin the hunt for a new chief executive after confirming that Charles Alluto will step down from the role in 2024.
Following more than two decades at the helm, in which he spearheaded campaigns to save the Plémont headland from development and restore historic buildings in St Helier, Mr Alluto said he had decided it was time for a change.
“The past 24 years have been an amazing experience for me and I will be forever grateful that I was given the opportunity to be part of a team delivering something meaningful and beneficial for our island.
“However, after careful reflection, I feel that now is the right time to leave the trust and explore other opportunities.”
Trust president Charlie Malet de Carteret expressed his gratitude to the departing chief executive, saying: “It is with a great deal of sadness that the trust’s council has accepted Charles’s resignation.
“We are indebted to him for his enormous contribution to the trust over the past 24 years.
“His passion, commitment and leadership have been inspirational and his achievements in protecting and preserving our natural landscape and historic built environment over the years leave a remarkable legacy.
“We extend our sincerest thanks to him and our warmest best wishes for his future plans.”
The recruitment process is set to begin in the coming weeks, and Mr Alluto has agreed to remain in place until a suitable replacement has been found.
