A 49-YEAR-OLD chef accused of raping a woman in the hotel where he used to work has denied all the accusations against him.
Terence Martin Quinn gave evidence on the third day of his Assize jury trial in the Royal Court.
The former head chef at the Oaklands Lodge Hotel denies charges of rape, grave and criminal assault and false imprisonment.
Earlier in the trial, the alleged victim said Mr Quinn had spat in her face repeatedly, locked her in a hotel room, forced her to stand in one corner, smashed her mobile phone, beat her and then had sex with her against her will. While giving evidence she said that she had been left “petrified”.
But Mr Quinn said all her allegations were false.
Advocate Chris Baglin, defending, asked him: “Did you spit on her?”
He said: “No, I don’t spit. I never spit at anybody.”
Advocate Baglin asked: “You didn’t throw a laptop at her?”
The defendant replied: “Absolutely not.”
Advocate Baglin also asked if Mr Quinn had pulled the woman’s hair, punched her or locked her in the room. He replied each time: “Absolutely not.”
Mr Quinn also denied that he had made the woman sleep in a corner of the room, though he did admit that they had had a disagreement during which he had told her: “You’re not coming into this bed. You can sleep on the floor.”
He said: “I had had enough at that stage.”
And he also denied forcing her to have sex. Advocate Baglin asked: “Did she physically resist in any way?”
Mr Quinn said: “No, she instigated it.”
He asked: “Did you have any reason to believe that it wasn’t consensual?”
Mr Quinn again replied: “No.”
The advocate also asked him how he had felt when he was arrested.
He replied: “I was scared. I was very surprised. I didn’t know what it was for.”
The trial is expected to conclude today (FRI).
