A MAN who punched a hotel porter in the face in the early hours of Saturday has been fined £500 and ordered to pay £500 compensation.
Justin James Reynolds (50) admitted assaulting the man at the Premier Inn in Bath Street.
In a Magistrate’s Court hearing yesterday, legal adviser Paul Lee, prosecuting, said Reynolds had been trying to enter the hotel at 1.40am but that his key card would not work.
The porter let him in but told him there was nothing wrong with his key. Reynolds then punched him.
Advocate Allana Binnie, defending, said Reynolds planned to write a letter of apology to the porter. She said: “He is appalled and disgusted by his behaviour.”
She said that he lived in England but had grown up in Jersey and regularly visited family here, staying in hotels, and had not been in trouble before.
She added: “It was clearly unplanned. It was one punch and an extremely minor injury. He knows it was an unacceptable reaction.”
