A DEMENTIA ‘care village’ for 70 residents, a 57-bedroom nursing home and 66 regular apartments could be built across the site of multiple redundant buildings in St Saviour, if plans are approved.
The planning application, for Plat Douet Road, has been submitted by Dandara in partnership with LV Care Group who also recently also announced their intentions to operate a planned 50-bedroom home on the site of Fauvic Nurseries in Grouville.
A design statement, contained within the St Saviour plans, says the proposed development would lead to much-needed properties being built on the site of disused buildings in an already built-up area of the Island.
‘Located on Plat Douet Road, the proposed 66-unit residential development contributes towards the collective efforts in fulfilling the shortfall [in housing]…To the east of the Plat Douet site, LV Care Group, one of Jersey’s ambassadors for independence and quality of life, are set to expand their services once again in the form of a new-build dementia village and care hub.
‘The [care home] design aspires to imbue comfort upon the residents through the ability to lead a familiar life, preserving a measure of autonomy and daily routine. The care model will provide an enviable range of comfort and amenity for the elderly that includes individual households each comprising of private rooms with en-suite facilities, a lounge, kitchen and dining facilities and private gardens, as well as being able to access 24-hour nursing services delivered by expert staff.’
It adds: ‘Learning from innovative European design models for dementia care, the public realm with the dementia village resembles a typical pedestrian high street with amenities such as a supermarket, hairdressers, pub and gym.’
