The States have declined to confirm the daily cost of employing John Laverick, who was engaged in June this year as chief information officer for the States.
Mr Laverick’s previous job was with Carillion, which made UK legal history this year after going into compulsory liquidation with nearly £7 billion of debts. In the past ten months, it has been confirmed that interim consultants such as Stephen Hardwick (communications), Anna Daroy (operations), Jacquie McGeachie (HR) and Camilla Black (finance) have been receiving day rates of between £1,200 and £1,400. However, the JEP has been contacted with information that suggests the rate of pay could now have increased. A source within the States has alleged that the bill for interim salaries alone could already have crept as high as £9 million in less than a year.
‘John Laverick has joined the States of Jersey as interim chief information officer to help transform the way the public sector delivers services using digital technology,’ a spokeswoman said. ‘He is here until a permanent modernisation and digital group director starts, and his main task is to oversee the support provided by Information Services to the States of Jersey. This interim role has been approved by the Jersey Appointments Commission and the States Employment Board, and is priced at a normal interim market day rate.’
