A MISSING man bought camping equipment on the morning of his disappearance, the States police have said.

Islanders have been urged to check gardens and outbuildings for any sign of 48-year-old Richard Romeril, who left his home address in St John at around 8.30am on Friday 8 September.

In an update released on Tuesday, police said after leaving his home Mr Romeril was seen on CCTV in town, where he purchased a green tent, a black and blue sleeping bag, a grey Eurohike rucksack and a blue foam sleeping mat from Blacks in King Street.

He was seen again on CCTV at B&Q buying an orange bucket and a grey tarpaulin at around 9.45am on Friday morning. His vehicle, a black Kia Sportage, was located at Noirmont Point at around 2pm on Friday.

Several witness sightings place Mr Romeril in the south-west of the Island and, although police believe this to be the area he is most likely to be in, he could have travelled further afield.
Mr Romeril is described as a white male, 5ft 3in, stocky build with short receding dark hair and moustache.

He was last seen wearing a brown/orange t-shirt, light brown shoes, dark socks and blue denim jeans.

Police officers and members of Jersey Fire and Rescue have been involved in the search, and a helicopter was also used over the weekend.

The States police would like to speak to anyone who may have seen Mr Romeril or a male matching his description, or his black Kia Sportage since Friday.

Police are also appealing for anyone in the parish of St Brelade – in particular the areas of Ouaisne, Noirmont and Portelet – with private CCTV, doorbell cameras, dash-cam footage or any ‘Honesty Box’ veg stalls with CCTV to get in touch.

Residents living in these areas are also being asked to check their gardens, fields, sheds and out-buildings for any sign of Mr Romeril.

Anyone with information can call 612612, selecting option 2, then option 4.
