A TWINNING ceremony this weekend will bring together Jersey and French lifeboat stations to ‘strengthen the bonds’ crews feel as part of this year’s RNLI open day.

The free event – which is being run by RNLI Jersey on Sunday at the St Catherine’s lifeboat station from 10am until 4pm – is also an opportunity for the public to step aboard the RNLI’s Atlantic 85 inshore lifeboat, Eric W Wilson, and to meet the crew.

The RNLI all-weather lifeboat and French SNSM Pirou lifeboat will also be there, alongside RNLI lifeguards, the Jersey Fire and Rescue Service, Jersey Coastguard and the Ambulance Service.

There will be a ‘historic’ twinning ceremony between the St Catherine and Pirou lifeboat station.

‘The two stations frequently work together and this twinning will strengthen the close bonds that the crews have,’ RNLI Jersey said.

There will also be an array of cakes, refreshments and RNLI souvenirs put on by the Lifeboat Guild.
