THE circumstances surrounding the disappearance of a Condor passenger thought to have gone overboard are still being investigated, according to the UK police force dealing with the case.
Ebla Yusuf was aboard the Condor Clipper ferry that was travelling from Portsmouth to Jersey, via Guernsey, on Saturday 22 July.
Ms Yusuf – described in some national media reports as a 48-year-old Swiss national – was last seen on board at around 2pm, while the vessel was still in UK waters.
A large area of the English Channel between the Isle of Wight and Guernsey was searched by aircraft from the UK and France, as well as Channel Islands Air Search.
The crew also conducted a full search of the boat after arriving in Jersey, but nothing was found.
In an appeal for information last month, the States police said there was ‘nothing to indicate that Ebla disembarked in Guernsey or Jersey’.
Yesterday, a spokesperson for the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary, which is dealing with the case, said: ‘We are investigating a report of the concern for the welfare of a woman who is believed to have fallen into the water while travelling on a ferry from Portsmouth to the Channel Islands. Our enquiries into the exact circumstances of the incident are ongoing.’
