THE Hospital pharmacy will close to outpatients on weekends from Saturday 2 September in a change which the government said would help it focus on inpatients.

The change means there are no opening times for outpatients outside of regular working hours.

The closure should have ‘very little impact to the public’, according to the Health Department.

Currently, the pharmacy is open Monday to Friday from 9am to 5pm and on Saturdays, Sundays and bank holidays from 10am to 1.30pm.

The pharmacy will maintain its weekday opening times – inpatients will continue to have access to pharmacy services on weekends and community GP prescriptions are also not expected to be affected.

Chief pharmacist Debbie O’Driscoll said: ‘I would like to reassure Islanders that this change we are making shouldn’t majorly affect patients as outpatient clinics are not routinely held at the weekend. It will also help the pharmacy to focus on providing a service to our inpatient population.

‘Patients will still be able to collect their prescriptions during the working week and our inpatient pharmacy service will remain unchanged. I would like to apologise for any inconvenience caused to Islanders.’
