Have you been over-charged? Wrong M&S prices due to ‘till errors’

SANDPIPER CI has said that higher prices at the till at Marks and Spencer are due to ‘errors’ and are not added taxes.

Customers took to social media earlier this week to complain that products purchased at M&S stores – which are run by SandpiperCI – were coming up at the till with extra amounts added.

For example, a steak marked as £10 was charged at £11.25.

When one customer queried, the extra amount was taken off, but other Islanders expressed concerns that ‘price-marked’ UK products were incurring taxes of more than the 5% GST legally allowed.

However, a spokesperson for SandpiperCI has said: ‘The till price for all food products sold in Jersey’s Marks and Spencer stores are clearly marked with a shelf edge price label inclusive of 5% GST.

‘This includes multi-buy promotions, which is always clearly displayed with flash labelled prices, highlighting the cost also including 5% GST.

‘Marks and Spencer Jersey sell more than 6,000 different food product lines.

‘On rare occasions – and not surprisingly – internal systems can incorrectly price products both above and below the correct price.

‘As soon as errors are discovered, corrections are made and refunds immediately given.’
