A GLOBAL audience tuned in to the African Jersey Forum on Wednesday focusing on the current and future role of the Jersey cow in Africa.

Held in Blantyre, Malawi, the conference was opened by International Development Minister Carolyn Labey.

During her stay in Africa, she also visited communities where Jersey Overseas Aid’s support and the Jersey cow are having a positive impact.

The conference, which was streamed online, also had audiences in Kigali, Rwanda, and at the Royal Jersey Showground in Trinity.

The conference shared knowledge and learning with politicians and policy makers, as well as farmers and businesses engaged in the dairy industry in Africa.

Through its Dairy for Development programmes, the RJAHS supports developing dairy industries around the world, and currently leads projects in Rwanda, Malawi, Ethiopia and Zambia. These are funded by JOA.

David Hambrook, head of Dairy for Development at the RJAHS and general manager of Jersey Island Genetics, acted as the conference host, introducing the speakers and organising the question and answer sessions that followed.
