This year’s marathon is due to take place on Sunday 7 October and will be raising money for Seeing is Believing – Standard Chartered’s global eye health care programme – and Jersey Hospice Care.
Mr Babb – a former Republic of Ireland international – made more than 250 Premier League appearances for Coventry, Sunderland and most notably Liverpool.
He said: ‘I’m delighted to be the race ambassador for the Standard Chartered Jersey Marathon, an event that promotes sports while supporting charities. I have heard that it is one of the friendliest marathons around so I’m looking forward to being in Jersey and meeting runners and supporters.’
Mr Babb will also be appearing at a pre-race ‘Pasta Party’ on Saturday 6 October.
Richard Ingle, chief executive officer for Standard Chartered Bank Jersey, said: ‘We’re thrilled to have Phil Babb as our race ambassador for the Standard Chartered Jersey Marathon 2018. It’s fantastic to see him coming to Jersey to support the Island’s premier running event that has grown so much since it was launched in 2006.’
Registration for the full marathon, the relay race and 3K fun run is still open at jersey-marathon.com.
Tickets for the pasta party cost £12 and can be purchased by emailing contact@jersey-marathon.com.
