A PROGRAMME of events is to be held in Jersey to help celebrate the coronation of King Charles III.

To mark the historic occasion on Saturday 6 May, Islanders are invited to attend an event in Coronation Park (Millbrook Park) from 10am to 6pm, where the coronation ceremony will be broadcast in real time on a large screen.

Licenced establishments will be encouraged to open from 9am ahead of the live coverage, while a special extension will be permitted for establishments with a seventh category licence – such as nightclubs – to apply to be open until 3am the following Sunday morning. Applications must be made to the Bailiff’s Chambers by Friday 21 April.

The Bailiff, Sir Timothy Le Cocq, said: ‘In this most significant year for His Majesty The King, it is a fitting tribute that Jersey will be able to come together in Coronation Park to watch live coverage of the coronation ceremonies in London on 6 May. Coronation Park is particularly appropriate given that it was opened in 1937 by Florence Lady Trent, to celebrate the coronation of King George VI.’

He added: ‘We hope this community occasion, along with the other events planned to complement the Royal Household’s planned activities, will allow Islanders to come together during what should be a memorable and joyful weekend for all who choose to take part.’

The programme of events is scheduled to include the following:

Coronation Celebrations in Coronation Park (Millbrook Park) from 10am to 6pm. A public event will be staged at Coronation Park, where a large screen will broadcast the coronation ceremony in real time. The family-focused event will include a programme of musical entertainment and activities.
