AN investigation is under way to identify a body found on a beach along Jersey’s south coast yesterday.
The fully clothed body of a man was discovered on the sand at Grève d’Azette just before 10am, about an hour and 40 minutes before high tide.
The States police say they do not believe it is fisherman Michael Michieli, who died along with his two crew when the L’Ecume II trawler sank following a collision with Condor’s Commodore Goodwill off Jersey’s west coast earlier this month. The bodies of the crew were found in the area of the wreck by an unmanned craft several days after the collision.
The force yesterday confirmed to the JEP that there were no outstanding reports of missing persons in the Island.
Officers were yesterday liaising with colleagues in Guernsey and France to check missing-person records in the jurisdictions.
Several police officers, including crime-scene investigators, and ambulance crews were sent to the beach following the discovery, and the area was cordoned off until the body was removed.
The Deputy Viscount has since been informed of the death.
Anyone with information is being asked to phone the States police on 612612.
