The 36-year-old, who is the international charity’s global ambassador, was back in Jersey on Sunday to take part in the Durrell Challenge fun run for a fourth time. ‘Durrell is a charity that is very close to my heart because I love animals, and I feel privileged to be an ambassador for a charity that is dedicated to saving species from extinction,’ he said. ‘It’s incredibly important that we all continue to support the work of Durrell.’
Approximately 700 people from 21 countries, including about 40 VIP runners who all committed to raise funds in excess of £1,200 for the trust, took part in Sunday’s run.
And Mr Cavill completed the 13km route in a time of 1hr 27min 26 sec, having run the race alongside members of his family.
Speaking before the event on Sunday, Mr Cavill joked that he had celebrated turning 36 the week before ‘by sleeping in’. He added: ‘I’m very busy with all my filming and work commitments, I rarely get a chance to sleep in, so on my birthday I slept in – a lot.’
The Superman and Mission Impossible Fallout star is currently shooting the Netflix television series The Witcher – a supernatural adventure series based on the books by the Polish writer Andrzej Sapowski.
The former St Michael’s Preparatory School pupil flew back to Budapest on Sunday night, to continue filming.
