A FREIGHT vessel operated by Condor – which was damaged in a shipyard – is expected to resume its usual sailings next week.

Commodore Goodwill was undergoing a month-long biennial check in Spain when it sustained damage to a propeller and drive shaft, which delayed its return to service.

The incident meant Condor had to schedule additional high speed sailings between the UK and the Channel Islands while Commodore Clipper, its freight and passenger ship, remained on Goodwill’s overnight schedule.

A Finnish freighter was also chartered to provide cover between Portsmouth and Guernsey.

The company says it expects Goodwill and Clipper to revert to their normal schedules by next Wednesday.

John Napton, Condor’s chief executive, said: ‘We’ve made the best of a difficult situation through careful planning so I am pleased we have been able to accommodate freight and passenger needs next week with, I hope, minimal inconvenience to customers.’

A Poole to Guernsey and Jersey return sailing has been scheduled for Tuesday 1 November, which is in addition to next week’s departures on Monday and Friday.

Mr Napton added: ‘Originally, we’d planned to put on a high speed sailing next Wednesday and provide a spread of departures across the five days, but the weather forecast that day isn’t great, so a Tuesday service is therefore our best option to provide greater certainty.’
