A VEHICLE responsible for an oil spill last week in St Helier which caused at least four crashes has been located.
The States police said it was a commercial vehicle with a leak which the driver was unaware of. No arrests were made.
They added that it is now an insurance matter for all parties involved.
The spill occurred last Thursday and led to numerous drivers reporting dangerous conditions in the north of town and along Grande Route de St Jean, with several saying they saw accidents or experienced near-misses.
Volunteers worked to clear the spillage on Thursday evening and dozens of Islanders took to Facebook to warn drivers to take care in the dangerous conditions.
However, it was not cleared without incident.
A motorcyclist crashed at Haute Croix and was taken to the Emergency Department but was released a short time later.
Two other motorcyclists were involved in separate incidents on St Mark’s Road and Midvale Road. Both suffered minor injuries but neither required an ambulance.
Elsewhere, two cars were involved in a collision on Wellington Road, but no injuries were reported.
St Helier Constable Simon Crowcroft thanked the honorary police and other volunteers for helping to clear up the mess – and said he would be presenting the culprit with a ‘large bill’.
