SECTIONS of the Esplanade will be closed when the road is resurfaced during half-term.

Diversions will be put in place during the major programme of works, which will take place between 22 and 27 October.

In a statement, the government said: ‘As part of the ongoing highway maintenance by Infrastructure, Housing and Environment, the Esplanade’s carriageway is being reconstructed between the junction with Gloucester Street and the junction with Peirson Road.

‘Due to the amount of traffic using the road each day we will be splitting this project into four sections – each section will be constructed during the school holidays.

‘The Esplanade is a strategic route so to minimise the disruption to traffic two lanes in each direction will remain open during the project.

‘To do this work we will implement a contra-flow system and also provide a number of diversions within the local area.

‘The contra-flow system will be implemented and will remain in place 24 hours a day for the duration of the project.’

The work will take pace Monday to Friday between 7.30am and 9pm, and Saturday and Sunday between 9am and 9pm.

The government added: ‘Due to the contra-flow system, all traffic is prohibited from turning from the Esplanade on to Kensington Road, Peirson Road, or to la Route de St Aubin (St Aubin’s Inner Road).

‘The diversion is along Victoria Avenue to First Tower and right turn on to Route de St Aubin (St Aubin’s Inner Road), Peirson Road, Cheapside, The Parade and Gloucester Street.

‘The diversion route to Patriotic Street and the General Hospital when coming from the east is Route du Fort, Route de la Libération, Castle Street roundabout, Castle Street, Esplanade, Anley Street, Seaton Place, Patriotic Place.’

Islanders are being advised to allow extra time to get to the Hospital.
