But anyone who is unsure of what to do with their Christmas tree is being invited to register for the Jersey Hospice Care Christmas Tree Collection and Recycling Scheme.
The charity offers Islanders an environmentally friendly way to dispose of trees and uses volunteers to take their festive firs and pines to the green-waste recycling facility at La Collette. From there, the trees are turned into soil improver for gardens and farmland.
Last year, the initiative proved to be a huge success, with 60 volunteers collecting more than 2,000 Christmas trees and raising a record-breaking £35,808 for the Jersey Hospice.
The program, which was first launched by Trevor Barker in 2005, has raised more than £300,000 in aid of the charity.
This year, Mitchell Building Contractors joins Jersey Post and Webreality as sponsors and supporters of the initiative.
Katrina Hancock, income generation director at Jersey Hospice, said: ‘This initiative is a fantastic way for us to give back to the community that supports us so generously while also raising money for Jersey Hospice Care for the year ahead. It is a great example of the difference we can make when people come together and, with our team of more than 30 volunteers, we hope to break last year’s record number of tree collections.’

Business collections will take place on 6 and 7 January, and residential collections will take place on 11 and 12 January.
Registration for business collections closes at 2pm on Friday 3 January, and registration for household collections closes at midnight on Wednesday 8 January.
