VOTES have been counted and the finalists for this year’s Pride of Jersey Awards have been confirmed.
A total of 212 nominations – the highest figure in the seven-year history of the event – were received, but Islanders’ votes have now seen the contenders whittled down to just three in each category.
Three people feature on multiple ‘Pride’ shortlists: Ben Mason as Mental Health Champion and Volunteer of the Year, Oliver Griggs in the Environmentalist and Young Ambassador categories, and JJ Gallagher as Community Champion and Volunteer of the Year.
One finalist who sadly will not be attending the Pride of Jersey awards ceremony is the late Valerie Guy. The popular dance teacher, who died last month aged 101, was among the top three nominees as Ambassador of the Year.
The ceremony will take place on 22 September, hosted by storyteller and comedian John Henry Falle and soprano Georgi Mottram.
The finalists will be featured in the JEP every day from Thursday.
