A FAMILY is seeking justice after their border collie was left to ‘suffer and die’ in an alleged hit-and-run.
Picasso was struck by a vehicle between 6.55pm and 7.20pm last Thursday [4 August] on Rue Mahier in St Mary and died on the side of the road.
Staff at the nearby Village Vets tried to help the two-year-old dog – which was reportedly left with ‘crushed organs’ – but his injuries were too severe.
His owner, Eddie Da Rocha, said the driver ‘must have known’ they had hit something and has asked anyone who might have information about the incident to come forward.
‘He was curled up in a ball. To think that someone left him there to suffer and die – it’s sick.
‘We understand that accidents happen but it would have cost them nothing to stop and help,’ he said, adding that the family was ‘shocked and devastated’.
‘If my little brother had run out of the gate and been hit, would they have left him there?’
He added: ‘Pablo [Picasso’s brother] is distraught – he doesn’t want to do anything. I’ve never seen a dog depressed before.’
