FIREFIGHTERS were called out on Wednesday morning after an electric car caught fire at the bottom of Mont Cochon in St Lawrence.

Jersey Fire and Rescue Service said there was “no evidence” that the high-voltage battery in the EV car was the cause of the blaze.

In a statement, the fire service said: “At 11.15am this morning, firefighters from Green Watch were called to a vehicle on fire at the bottom of Mont Cochon in St Lawrence.

“The fire was concentrated under the bonnet and was quickly extinguished.

“Following the usual checks, the vehicle was handed over to recovery agents and the road was reopened.”
