Rugby: Unchanged Jersey head for Knights showdown

The Jersey Reds head coach claims the pressure is on the hosts to get a result as the race to secure a place in the end-of-season play-offs nears its conclusion.

Having qualified for the British & Irish Cup final last Sunday, beating runaway league leaders London Irish for the second time in as many weeks to reach the showdown, the Islanders have extended their run of successive victories to ten.

Doncaster Knights currently occupy fourth position – the final play-off spot – but just two points separate them from fifth-placed Jersey with two games to play.

‘We have got to do the hard work,’ he explained. ‘We need to go away from home to Castle Park, a tough place to go, and go and get a victory whereas they are playing at home.

In the hope that continuity is the key to success, Jersey have named exactly the same team squad of 22 players that beat Irish at the Madejski Stadium last Sunday.

Jersey Reds, sponsored by Santander: Jake Woolmore, Joe Buckle, Simon Kerrod, Pierce Phillips, Dave McKern, James Freeman (capt), Gary Graham, Nick Haining; Kieran Hardy, Callum Sheedy; Nick Scott, Kuki Ma’afu, Jordan Davies, George Watkins, Jack Cuthbert.

Replacements: Nick Selway, Sean McCarthy, Jake Armstrong, Uili Kolo’ofa’i, Max Argyle, Joel Dudley, George Eastwell.
