Football: Sin bins by summer?

The International Football Association Board – the sport’s law makers – are set to review proposals in March and may adopt rugby-style sin bins for yellow cards in junior and amateur football within months. The professional game could upgrade its current format inside three years.

As those in charge of the game continue their efforts to clean up football’s image Browne believes the threat of sin bins could boost discipline, and he responded positively to suggestions that the alteration could be brought in before the summer.

‘I would welcome and embrace it to be honest,’ he said. ‘If it helps with ill-discipline on the field, then it’s progress.’
