Rugby: Biljon blasts Booj’s claims on ‘penalty try’

Bedford were given four penalties in quick succession, all in Jersey’s 22, while pushing for a late try, but the Islanders’ defence stood strong as they closed out a 14-9 victory, their fifth win on the bounce over this particular opponent.

Speaking after defeat, Bedford’s Le Bourgeois, a product of the Jersey Reds academy, said: ‘It’s down to the ref … for us, it should have gone our way. I’m sure Jersey will say it should have gone their way but we should have been ahead.’

Having heard Le Bourgeois’ grievance, Jersey’s Biljon replied: ‘I think he’s clutching – the penalties were for different infringements and he was confused with what the ref was communicating, quite clearly.

‘How can he tell from 30 metres away from where the referee is making the decision?’
