Motion to remove the Chief Minister ‘days away’

St John Constable Chris Taylor is leading the charge to remove Chief Minister Ian Gorst, who has come under mounting pressure in the wake of the failures of the Jersey Innovation Fund and delays to the the hospital funding debate.

The tensions reached breaking point on Friday, when Senator Gorst chose to re-instate his long-term political ally, Senator Philip Ozouf, to the role of Assistant Chief Minister.

And sources say the move to reappoint the former Treasury Minister came despite several senior members of the Council of Ministers strongly advising against him doing so.

Tensions have been growing among ministers, with several of the Island’s senior politicians becoming increasingly disillusioned with Senator Gorst’s leadership, and it is believed that some ministers have not ruled out breaking rank and supporting a no-confidence vote.
