Decision on police pensions

The States Employment Board, which deals with employment matters on behalf of the States, has lodged a proposition calling for the Chief Minister to consider such requests in the cases of the six former officers who remain part of the Police Non-Contributory Pension Scheme, which was closed to new members in 1968.

The move follows a request from a widow which, under the old scheme, would have been considered by the Defence and Establishment Committees. There is no legal right to a widow’s pension under that scheme.

Any widows’ pensions that were agreed would be paid out of the scheme’s existing budget.
