Serious concerns over condition of cars

Chris Le Maistre, deputy inspector of motor traffic at DVS, said following the check last week that he was ‘seriously concerned’ that drivers were not regularly checking their vehicle’s lights.

A total of 339 cars were inspected during the check, which was carried out by DVS, the Grouville honorary police and the States police.

Eighteen of these were found to have faults and one driver was also given advice regarding the way in which a load was secured to his vehicle and the type of straps being used.

Mr Le Maistre said that 12 of the drivers were given defect notices for faulty lights.

‘I am seriously concerned that drivers do not appear to be carrying out regular checks on their lights and brake lights. It is the responsibility of all drivers to ensure that their vehicles are in a roadworthy condition,’ he said.
