JEP Opinion: The unhelpful jargon of civil servants

Apparently, these crossings do not give the pedestrian right of way, but are designed to make it more obvious to motorists that people might be walking across the road and that they should take care and slow down.

There will no doubt be many readers, including Nicola McAteer, who is quoted in today’s report, who think that this is just an expensive, confusing mess which will do little to improve safety. No one has yet explained why a black and white pedestrian crossing was not simply painted on the road.

Or is that too cheap and too simple?
