St Helier Deputy Geoff Southern said he intends to meet Bailiff William Bailhache this week to discuss changes to standing orders – the rules that govern how the Assembly operates.
The Deputy believes that too often ministers do not properly answer questions and that a clause within the Chamber’s rules should be added that forces them to address the topic being discussed.
He said: ‘We ask a question about topic A and we get an answer on topics M, N, O and P, and that satisfies the criteria for them answering the question. We should be able to hold them to account and should be able to get straight answers. We have to get some discipline among ministers, because their responses are at times, quite frankly, a joke.’
