14 years for importer of drugs valued at over £1.5m

Serial criminal Lee James Barratt (51) – whose jail term eclipses that which was handed to notorious gangster Curtis Warren in 2009 – smiled as he was guided away by prison officers in the Royal Court yesterday.

Warren, who once topped Interpol’s most wanted list, was jailed for 13 years for a plot to import £1 million worth of cannabis.

Deputy Bailiff Tim Le Cocq, presiding, said had the class A and B drugs made it onto Jersey’s streets the consequences would have been dire.
