Jersey to join a ‘Global Greening’ for Irish feast day

The landmark will change colour, along with hundreds of others around the world, as part of a ‘Global Greening’ to mark Ireland’s national day.

The move follows a request from Pamela O’Neill, of the Jersey Irish Society, Elaine Walker and the Cannon O’Rafferty School of Irish Dancing for the Island to join in the initiative in order to support the charity Motor Neurone Disease Association and put Jersey on the ‘global green’ world map for St Patrick’s Day.

Now in its eighth year, the Global Greening, a Tourism Ireland initiative, involves famous landmarks around the world, including the London Eye, the Empire State Building in New York and the Colosseum in Rome, ‘going green’ on 17 March.

Islanders are being encouraged to share their images of the green Fort Regent dome on social media over the weekend.

For more information about St Patrick’s Day events in Jersey tomorrow and the weekend visit The Jersey Irish Society page and Cannon O’Rafferty School of Irish dance on Facebook.
