Where have the 10,000 Jersey taxpayers gone?

Statistics published by the Tax Office show that nine years ago there were 69,692 taxpayers in Jersey but the figure fell to 59,900 in 2014.

During the same period, the number of people in the Island increased from 95,400 to 101,000.

Last year, Senator Sarah Ferguson lodged proposals for the States to commission an independent review of Jersey’s tax system, which she believes is no longer fit-for-purpose.

Her proposal was rejected, but Treasury Minister Alan Maclean announced that an in-house review would be held by the States, the findings of which are due to be published later this month.
