States save £300k on travel after JEP exposé flights

The amount spent on States travel was highlighted after this newspaper revealed last year that two senior civil servants, Mike King and Wayne Gallichan, had spent around £13,000 on business-class flights to South Africa.

Speaking during a Public Accounts Committee hearing on the matter yesterday, States Chief Executive John Richardson said that the amount spent on travel in 2016 had dropped by around 20 per cent from the year before with £1.2 million spent on travel expenses.

Sitting alongside States Treasurer Richard Bell, Mr Richardson said that a new booking system had streamlined costs and that the States had become more proficient in using travel points accrued from previous trips.
