Hospital staff train in UK to tackle shortage

Currently, there are 38 vacancies for registered nurses at the Hospital, including about 15 full-time equivalent posts for the specialist operating theatre role.

The UK is also facing a shortage of operating theatre nurses following rule changes which require all such practitioners to be trained to degree level.

Agency staff have been employed to fill the gaps in Jersey in the short term but the Health Department has now set up links with Edge Hill University so that Islanders can study for a BSc degree qualification to become an operating department practitioner.
