Plummeting temperatures and wintry showers are on the way

Temperatures are expected to fall by about five degrees between today and Thursday, as cold easterly winds push in over the Island.

Today’s maximum temperature is expected to reach 10°C, and there was a risk of thunder and lightning from the afternoon.

Meanwhile, the east of England is expected to be hit by a bitter cold spell by the end of the week, with snow expected to fall.

During this week in 1996, 30 cm of snow was recorded at the Met Office observatory at Maison St Louis, and 25 cm of snow at the Airport.
