Gorst takes on Ozouf finance brief

Senator Gorst announced the change yesterday at an event for members of Jersey Finance, the body responsible for promoting Jersey’s finance industry overseas.

Senator Ozouf, who previously held political responsibility for the digital economy, innovation and competition as well as financial services, offered his resignation earlier this month in the light of a forthcoming independent inquiry into ministerial oversight of the Jersey Innovation Fund.

The fund – from which £2 million worth of loans were made to start-up firms – was frozen earlier this month following a damning report by Comptroller and Auditor General Karen McConnell. She found that it was ‘not fit for purpose’ and concluded that £1.4 million of loans were unlikely ever to be repaid.
