Upgrade for St Helier Marina

Work to replace the 35-year-old gates began yesterday and is expected to take about three weeks to complete.

Access to the marina will be restricted to a period of one hour either side of high water while the new gates are installed. A traffic-light system will be in place during the work, with red indicating that no movement in or out of the marina can be made.

The project will also include replacing the lifting mechanisms and power systems. The work is being carried out to ensure greater resilience and the equipment is expected to last for another 30 years, Ports of Jersey said.

The specialist work is being carried out by Dutch company Ravestein, which carried out construction work on a bridge at Elizabeth Harbour three years ago.

The marina gates were constructed in the Netherlands and brought to the Island for installation following a tendering process. A £300,000 budget has been allocated for the project.

Ports of Jersey became an incorporated publicly-owned business last year.
