Senator Philip Ozouf made the comments after Treasury Minister Alan Maclean told a Scrutiny panel that there were unexplained margins somewhere along the fuel supply chain in Jersey.
Also while giving evidence during a Corporate Services Scrutiny Panel, Senator Maclean said that the margins were ‘not in the interest of this Island, not in the interest of businesses and not in the interest of consumers’.
Now Senator Ozouf, who has since 2001 suggested net prices are too high in Jersey, said that if the road-fuel market followed in the footsteps of domestic fuel and and net prices were cut by around 7p per litre, consumers would be getting a fairer price.
He claims that once taxes and duties are stripped out, net road-fuel price is around 18 pence per litre more expensive in Jersey than in other comparable jurisdictions.
