‘Reckless assault’ costs tourist £2,700

The defendant’s ‘reckless’ actions resulted in his victim suffering facial injuries following the incident at the Hotel Savoy at the weekend.

The 44-year-old from Wigan in Lancashire was fined £2,000 and ordered to pay his victim £500 compensation after pleading guilty to grave and criminal assault and malicious damage to a door and carpet of a hotel room.

He was also ordered to pay £200 compensation to the hotel.

Assistant Magistrate Peter Harris said that the defendant and his friends were being reprimanded for making too much noise late at night when the offence was committed.
